Re: Party tap barb to push fit pipe
Yeah I like them. They make a good bottling device too.soupdragon wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 7:59 amWith a balanced system I find that party taps work well enough. What would you say is the benefit of a flow control tap over a balanced line?

Chris
That's a good thought, but it isn't something I have heard of.
Modern hop types & strengths vary so wildly, I think it would be of little help.
Just my tuppence

Re: Kegging advice
I have no experience of kegging. But I am a serial tinkerer/fixer/modifier/brewer. So here goes. I have never kegged cos bottling is too easy (well not hard enough to change). And I like the simplicity. And doubt I could get through a keg quick enough. And don't want the cost and hassle of gas. But ...

Forgive me, but John Palmer is American. "too malty" would be very easy to get to fit a UK beers.
Not knocking John at all, but his palette will be different.

No. I full volume mash all the time.I thought that the water has to be within certain limits for the enzymes to work properly…that’s from the bit of reading I’ve done about mashing. So much to learn !

Re: Flaked oats and torrified wheat in extract recipes?
Either. But Best would be to pop the grain in a bag and then just lift it out. Small batches work well with supermarket veg bags.Is this with all the grains still in the pot or have they been removed and it’s just the remaining wort?

AbsolutelyCover the pot and leave it till next morning
I would not bother putting it in the oven. Waste of time and energy.
Get it to 76c for 5 mins with a clean, close fitting lid on it and come back next day.
Do not open the lid, until you need plan to continue.

Re: Flaked oats and torrified wheat in extract recipes?
Thanks yet again Eric. I have been doing a bit of research and it seems that an overnight mash is ok. I do have one last question which I can’t seem to find anything on, instead of doing an overnight mash , what if the mash is done the night before and it’s completely done, ie the mash is completed...

Re: Percarbonate as a Disinfectabt
[ Yeap! Got me eye on Isopropyl Alcohol (not sure if it's safe as a no-rinse spray, should be?) Definitely not wasting Gin! And that virus scare taught us; 40% alcohol isn't enough, 70% might be necessary. Isopropyl Alcohol is cheaper overall than H2O2. Weird why H2O2 has never seemed to get much s...
