Re: Just changing brewing method

Have a look here for the method. A word of warning. There's a bug in the system. If you upload several photos and then press preview you lose all but one photo. Very annoying, but that's just the way it is. So, write your text, add the photos and press 'submit'. Do Not press preview!! Guy Method 2 ...

Not sure why that is as your permissions look correct and you have pasted with attachments recently. What was the file type that you were trying to add?

Re: Mixing paddle

Guy, automated "mash agitators" are very common in the German (European?) homebrew scene, no idea if they add any value though but you can find some examples here:

Did you remove the carbonation before measuring it?

Re: Best use of controller probes

You can get controllers that will account for the overshoot and use an algorithm to prevent it - Brewblox/BrewPi remix/CraftbeerPi; all based i think on the original BrewPi (now called Brewblox in its new iteration). They vary in price and DIY capability requirements quite a bit but are very effecti...

Braumeister or Brewtools??

Just to throw a curveball in there, there is a premium German machine, the BrauEule III. It doesn’t really seem to be known over in the UK but takes a different approach compared to the machines already discussed. https://www.brumas.com/brumas/BRUMAS-Breweries/BrauEule-III-Pro-Set::110.html?language...

Braumeister or Brewtools??

The Brewtools is a lot of cleaning, very shiny but a lot of cleaning. The BM (and Grainfather) are both solid proven systems. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but just be aware that a step up to the 50L BM from three 20L comes with a few gotchas, eg commando power sockets needed and a ho...

Re: 13% imperial stout advice please

Lots of healthy yeast! We are talking 5 packs of dry yeast or a really big starter; in the case of wet yeast you are probably better brewing as weaker beer and then using the yeast cake.
Also check that the yeast that you are using will tolerate the ABV that you want to reach, a lot will not.

Re: Off Flavours

If you think it’s the yeast you could always buy a 1 or 2 can kit and split it between two fermenters with your test and then kit yeast, it’s a simple and quick test that wouldn’t mean wasting hours on an all grain brew day.

Re: Off Flavours

It could also be condensation running back into the boiler.
I think the easiest way would be to do a boil without the lid and see if you still get the issue, it would tell you if that is the culprit or if you need to look elsewhere.
What are the flavours/smells that you are getting?

Re: Hand canning your beer

I was expecting this to be a counter pressure filler. How do you cleanly control carbonisation then? You usually can bright already carbonated beer, you can can condition but you need to be pretty sure that test isn’t going to keep chomping away. You can either contre pressure fill or fill very car...

Re: using a corney as a cask

If you have a new corny keg use that in preference to a refurbished older one.
Trefoyl has a pretty similar setup I think.
