Thanks for the responses guys.
Last did a Pilsner in January 2016 with the whole process to bottling taking 28 days. Can't find where the recipe/process came from in my notes but obviously there'll be a number of ways to get a good result as has been alluded to below.

Re: Fool Proof Pilsner
1) Lagers don't really take weeks to ferment. 2-3 weeks is typical at temperatures below 14/15C. The thing which they do need is a longish period of cold conditioning post fermentation, but you can do this in the bottle. 2) If you have the ability to brew under pressure (fermentasaurus or the like)...

Fool Proof Pilsner
Hi All Having been badgered on and off for ages to do something other than Pale Ales and Porters, decided to do a Pilsner after Xmas to store (bottle) for Spring/Summer. Plenty of recipes for the grain bill - the issue is though that I only have a very simple set-up and don't want to tie up my brewi...

Re: Home grown hops 2023
We were touring France and Spain for 3 weeks during June and I think the neighbours may not have been as diligent on the watering front as they promised so a double whammy with the following rubbish July. Not that August has been consistently better so far.

Re: Home grown hops 2023
How are everyone finding potential crops for this year? Mine are looking at least 50% down at this stage compared to previous few years. Far less overall growth with different varieties seeming to be maturing/flowering at vastly different rates. Some parts of my Northdowns are well on and may even b...

Re: No Chill
As Mash says, 80% is mad. If 20% have been great and you're not doing anything wildly different it has to be infections and possibly temperature control that are ruining the majority of your brews. Sanitation is absolutely key to ending up with a 'beer' that is drinkable even if you don't like the l...

Re: No Chill
Hi B.E. As a regular BIABer and ex No Chill (except last Summer when very conscious of water shortages), thought I'd chuck a couple of comments in - suspect you'll get inundated! 30 minute boil is a bit short for me - normally go for at least 60 minutes but there's discussion on this topic at the mo...

Re: Wilko Gervin Ale Yeast = Danstar Nottingham
Just for info cross my loof 'midland' yeast is also Nottingham. And indistinguishable from the original imo. And amazing price too. https://www.crossmyloofbrew.co.uk/online-store/CML-Beirm-Yeast-p371759031 And a great bunch of guys. Tried quite a few of their yeasts and not been disappointed yet. A...

Re: Home grown hops 2023
I read somewhere to prune lots of the shoots off and just have one stem, but how do you guys do it? Is it better to just let them rip and provide more supports for the shoots as necessary or trim them down to one or two stems? Any thoughts????? Leave all the shoots until you have a dozen or so at l...

Re: Removing Limescale from 100l pan
Then finish off with Citric acid and boiling water. Tried citric amongst others but maybe Eric has enlightened me! If it has, it could likely be beerstone, calcium oxalate, deposited during fermentation. I've been assuming it's limescale but I have to say I always thought it odd being so heavily an...

Removing Limescale from 100l pan
Bought a job lot of 2nd hand gear a while back which included a 100L pan that I'll never use and intend either selling-on or, if no takers, see if any of the clubs/charities etc can make use of it. It's really heavily encrusted with limescale that I've made minimal impact on using all sorts of suppo...

Re: Dry Hopping - How much
I thought it was just the natural sugars in them, that caused a bit of action. Read an interesting couple of articles some time ago that put the 'increased action' down to biotransformation - the yeast reacting with hop compounds that are normally 'locked in' during fermentation. Have thrown 25g of...

Re: overnight no-chill brewdays
It's this simple. Brewers who can brew produce attractive bright beer. Those who cannot brew produce cloudy crap and justify it by saying that ls what they intended to make. The resulting hop soup is claimed to be trendy and the way to go. Just imagine the uproar if an upstart winemakier tried the ...
