Re: Conical fermenter questions.

Those elements look top quality. Where did you source those from? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro The wavy elements came from Amazon at £29 each. Aiicioo 5500w Ripple Water Heating Element. The other elements I got shipped from China as I needed a fairly low wattage element to just act as a co...

Yeah these are probably my fallback option if the fabrication proves too costly or doesn't materialise.

Re: Conical fermenter questions.

Looks good. You will probably have to have a head scratch about crash cooling options. Something like a maxi cooler will maintain the temp during active fermentation, but good luck finding a fridge that that beast can fit in. You might need to DIY a fermentation chamber around it It's jacketed, so ...

Re: Conical fermenter questions.

You will have to think about brewing statically, using pumps to move the beer around as that much beer will weigh about 450Kg. Do you have a permanent place where you brew, like a brew shed? The Brewery is being built in a garage, single tier 2 pump affair. It's getting there slowly. We still need ...

I've upscaled to a 100/100/200 setup intending to do 150L batches between 5 brewers.

Conical fermenter questions.

So I have managed to bag this off eBay for £165. It's 200L capacity with a single bottom drain point. First question is whether what I've got is worth what I paid. Second is moving it. Can it be tipped on its side for transportation in a trailer or do I need to be standing it up in the back of a tra...

Re: Panel build

Yeah, pretty much. The 5.5kw elements would need to run from industrial sockets/wiring, not standard 13A domestic outlets, but in principle it seems okay if I understand it correctly. I may be tempted to control the boost element for the HLT as well as the 2.5kw one, so that I couldn't forget the b...

Re: Panel build

Looks smart. Just a coupe of thoughts, which you may well have already considered: SSRs leak, so an associated panel light may need to be in parallel with the control side (or a complimentary switch or relay) rather than the power output of the SSR, else it may illuminate slightly even when nominal...

Panel build

Hi. I'm in the process of building a 100-150L brewery and am at the stage where I am going to build the panel and would like a quick sense check on the panel layout and features. It's a single teir, 3 vessel, HERMS pot, 2 pump affair. All DPDT switches - one pole for safety (all off to power panel) ...

100L brewery build.

Chaps. It's been about 4 years since I last brewed - I moved house and all the gear went into storage. Had a decent 30L setup with more than 20 brews under my belt. Started planning my new brewery recently, then I get a text from a few mates saying they want to brew too. 5 of us - 2 x C&I instrument...

Organising a charity beer festival - advice needed.

Hello again fellow brewers. Been a long time. I have had my house up for sale , so my brewgear is gathering dust in the garage, hense the lack of my posting/brewing. Recently my youngest was in Alder Hey childrens hospital for the best part of a month with a nasty infection. Seems to be sorted now, ...

Re: Missed the OG by a country mile.

If it is the first time you have used Beersmith you might have the efficiency set too high. The program seems to greatly overestimate on default settings. Through trial and error I've found that a setting of 65% efficiency works for my batch sparging setup. I've used the efficiency calcs Jim has lis...

Re: 'Ordinary' bitter - what's your favourite sub 4% recipe?

The Briars Best recipe by SiHoltye is the best ordinary bitter I've made. I did it for my first ever AG and it came out at about 4% and it was mega quaffable. Really should make me some more....
