Re: Braumeister or Brewtools??

I think there is also a degree of "horses for courses" here. As above, I have a GF30 which meets my needs for the most part. I don't often brew very big beers, so the GF30 generally suits. I do sometime increase my brew length for "cooking beers" to 30L which is about what my fermenters can cope wit...

Re: Braumeister or Brewtools??

You pays your money and takes your choice, but I’ve been brewing with a GF 30 for 3.5 years and 70-80:batches with no complaints and no signs of it giving up on me. I would argue it’s a proven bit of kit. However, I also know that BM is a solid system. Brewtools I do not know. Seems a bit newer and ...

This only occurred to me yesterday when I tripped over a stainless stock pot that must be 50L ish
Is the plan to use it as a fermenter?

Re: Double mash one day later.

My fermenters are not large enough for a double batch, but I can fit 30L in them which is more than I can normally produce with my GF30. So I make batch stronger than required for 23/25L and liquor back to get to 30L; usually adding extra sparge liquor before I cool/transfer Only one mash/brew day a...

Surely you have the right to a replacement or repair as well as to a refund?

Re: Double mash one day later.

Not tried it, but I can't see why it wouldn't work as a means of producing a large (double) batch. By the time you add the second batch of wort, the first should be well into fermentation; almost like a big starter.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Hand canning your beer

My two penceworth: Upsides: - Cans are lighter so easier to transport; - Canned beer won't be affected by light; - Err...that's all I can think of Downsides: - Cost; - Cans are not re-usable (bottles mostly are); - Controlling dissolved Oxygen (although why is this not also an issue for bottled beer...

Re: A better spunding valve?

I've acquired one of these blow-tie spunding valves and so far it seems to be doing an admirable job. I've tweaked it to a pressure (as per the gauge which came with it) to around 6psi and it seems to be holding very steady at that pressure.

Happy Cobnut.

Re: Alpha acid analysis

If you get the 50, I'll send 2 samples (Cascade and Prima Donna).

PM me the details of where to send and when.

Re: Alpha acid analysis

How large a sample is needed?

I've harvested and dried my first year's hops:
- 74g Challenger
- 280g Cascade
- 180g Prima Donna (First Gold) - these were not mine, but were donated "wet" by a relative who grew them on his allotment. He takes payment in beer.

Re: Home grown hops 2021

I've been thinking for a while about building a mini-oast along the lines of this: https://byo.com/project/hop-oast/ This is from a US based guy and these type of Box Fans seem rather harder to come by this side of the pond, so I was considering using a few computer cooling fans. I could go really c...

Just goes to prove that we do not have to go AG.

That said a) it was an American lager, b) he used a yeast starter (rather than dry yeast)
