Re: Braumeister or Brewtools??

I would say the primary advantage of an AIO is simply space. The brew day isn't necessarily quicker....mash still takes time, as does boiling and cooling...yes you can clean the malt pipe whilst you are boiling but that's no different to cleaning out a mash tun in a 3v system. In terms of cost...I'd...

Re: Braumeister or Brewtools??

I also am a BM20 user who for the past 18 months has been considering another system. I'd say my primary drivers are... 1) Id like occasionally to brew bigger beers...the mash efficiency drops noticeably once you go over 6.25kg in the malt pipe....I've performed reiterated mashes, I've added extract...

Re: AHA homebrewer of the year

Just goes to prove that we do not have to go AG. That said a) it was an American lager, b) he used a yeast starter (rather than dry yeast) He built up his starter from dry yeast. Most folks would advise that a starter is not required when using dried yeast...just pitch two packets. Just goes to sho...

Re: Why do you brew?

Because it gives me the opportunity to try a variety of beer styles that are often not widely available commercially.

Re: The BrewTools Fanboy Thread

It was all I could afford on their website  I did change to slightly bigger o-rings, but perfect fit to be honest. Needs lube or else tends to get stuck. I got caught out by the BrewTools ethos of "you need to buy extra stuff to make our gear work". Ordered dip tube from The Malt Miller and to...

Re: The BrewTools Fanboy Thread

@Bumster Yes, the BT 3-way valves are cheap Chinese jobs. You can get them on AliExpress, if you’re interested. My Blichmann G2 Linear Flow Valves don’t collect any gunk, especially after I run my BM CIP protocol. If you want to drain a BM completely, for cleaning/rinsing, use a dip tube: IMG_0330....

Re: Very slow ineffective ferment

Yeah I realised what you meant after re-reading...if youve done it before successfully then shouldnt be a source of your problem. But TBH I'm not sure that its really necessaary. Beer can sit on trub for a reasonable time without real issue.

What is your predicted FG?

Re: Storing empty bottles

Pour beer from bottle, rinse bottle immediately. Enjoy beer Rinse bottle, quick squirt of Starsan, cap with a plastic resealing cap. Store in one of many beer crates I've got stacked up by the side of my garage, When it comes to bottling day generally the bottles just need a quick dunk and rinse in ...

Re: Placing of Inkbird Temperature Probe

I mean, a jar full of liquid will heat up/cool down much more rapidly than a bin containing 19 litres. Or am I missing something here? No...you are not missing anything. As previously advised, a Thermowell is the best option followed by taping the probe to the wall of the FV and insulating it with ...

Re: Braumeister new touch screen

Yes, it is an SS Brewtech whirlpool fitting. I started off fitting a Blichmann whirlpool fitting, which requires some modifying to sit outside the malt pipe, but the Brewtech fitting is simpler and just as effective. I'll post some pics later, showing how it's actually fitted, as it required a coup...

Re: Braumeister new touch screen

Not sure about McMullan but, when I saw the Brewtools machine I was initially very impressed (I have seen it in the flesh too), however a lot of the advertised functions were not actually implemented in the software of the controller but marked down as coming in future updates (hopefully this has i...
