Are screw tops ok for wine bottling or shold I cork the lot and do the corks need soaking?
Hi I'm back making wine after a long time out, I started out just making wine but for the last few years I've just been making beer. Anyway, I'm about to bottle 60 bottles and I'm wondering if screw top bottles are ok and whether anybody out there has any experience of using them. All commercial win...

I need an easy way to pump beer line cleaner through my lines
Right, I'm sure that I've raised this before but after buying two garden pressure pumps and failing Im looking for something to attach to a standard length of 3/8 beer line so that I can get purple line cleaner through my lines. The problem I've found is adapting the garden pumps, as I've gone throu...

Re: Slightly hard water? No rinse sanitiser? What should I be using?
Many thanks for responding, I'm seeing loads of iodine disinfectants with varying prices and I've found Bimodex at £40 for 5 litre https://www.farmacy.co.uk/bimodex-iodophor-disinfectant-5l/p7905 is this the same thing and safe to use for brewing? I'm presuming that it'll keep and that would clearl...

Slightly hard water? No rinse sanitiser? What should I be using?
Right, I live in Wakefield and my water is slightly hard, I've been using Starsan thinking all is well but then having read some posts on here I'm starting to think I'm just going through the motions and potentially achieving nothing! If there is hardness in the water Starsan doesn't work apparently...

Re: Saisson Recipe
I have a saisson and have two keezers running one at 10.5 degrees for beet/ale and the lager fridge at 4.5 degrees, which fridge should I keep it in for serving? I note that it should be carbonated to 3 above so I'm thinking lager fridge so that it can be served without just being froth! Any comments...

Re: Conditioning Lager? I want fizzy lager!
I'm not in any hurry really just wanted a taste more than anything just to make sure it was OK, how long does it usually take? I'm presuming around a week? What's your experience? I'm not fond of the idea of shaking the kegs and had read I could do that elsewhere but as you say I don't want to over ...

Conditioning Lager? I want fizzy lager!
OK, I have made up two lager kits, a helles lager and a wilkos lager, wilkos just to see what it's like and if it's palateable!! I've also built a smaller keezer for lager purely as I want it to keep cooler and also I was of the opinion that if I condition it cooler then it will absorb the co2 and t...

Re: Floating dip tube for corny
Ok, I get that tying a weight to the dip tube will help but what do you secure it with? How big a weight? Where is best to secure from, actually ilI have some cable ties which I think will probably do the trick but any other comments would be gratefully received. I have a keg that I thought was empt...

Are Campden tablets necessary?
I've been brewing beer from kits and a fair bit of wine also and I have Campden tablets but I don't tend to use them. What is the point of them? I know for wine it can stop it going off but for beer, which is what I'm concentrating on at the moment, is there any need to add Campden tablets and when ...

Re: Gas lines
I see you're using an Inkbird, I've set up with stc1000s as I'd Read on these threads that they were pretty reliable but the wiring and the probes are a little flimsy and I just wondered if you think the Inkbird is more reliable/better? I've had one of my stc1000s just stop working and all my beer f...

Re: Gas lines
Hi there. To answer your question briefly, no this isn't a problem running gas through 5/16" line, and you can certainly run two kegs off of that as long as you're not intending to pour both kegs at the same time. As you're splitting after the regulator, both kegs have to be at the same serving pre...

Re: Carbonation Pressure/Temperature Chart
Carbonating pressure v serving pressure. What pressure are people serving at? I have a six cornie set up through a gas managment board, mainly lager and cider (i bottle everything else) with two in the kegerator. I carb up at about 25 psi currently and leave it as long as waiting to go in the keger...
