Re: I can’t get the lid off my bucket!

I have a couple of tubs I fight to get the lids off too, drives me nuts. I'm thinking of on of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ABS-Plastic-Gallon-Bucket-Pail-Paint-Can-Lid-Opener-Opening-Tool-For-Home-Off-/402710532252?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Sent fro...

Re: False bottom for Grainfather

I have just received one of these and thought it a bit flimsy too but it weighs virtually the same a the one I got from Angel Homebrew (one of the legit new one's that didn't fit). Will be trialling it soon but it fits snugly in my GF30.

Re: Two Yeasts For Old Perculier?

... However many online reports suggest it doesn't attenuate very well so was thinking of pitching a packet of Wilko Gervin (I understand its Nottingham in reality) a couple of days after pitching the M15...does that sound a reasonable plan? No ... it doesn't sound like a reasonable plan! Why'd you...

Two Yeasts For Old Perculier?

I'm planning GW's BYOBRA Old Perculier recipe next and was thinking of using Mangrove Jacks M15 Empire yeast for it. However many online reports suggest it doesn't attenuate very well so was thinking of pitching a packet of Wilko Gervin (I understand its Nottingham in reality) a couple of days after...

Re: Why do you brew?

I get to drink beers like they used to make in my younger days - hard to find a good straight bitter in pubs nowadays.

Brewfather Profile for Exe Valley Spring

Hi all. I'm putting together a recipe on brewfather based on GW's Exe Valley Spring recipe. I've recently started water treatments to improve my beer and to keep things simple to begin with want to use either one of the given target profiles or style profiles in the app. Can you guys give me a few s...

Re: Brewgas sparkler tap on budget barrel

I have now fitted the Brewgas sparkler tap to two budget barrels. I put Pte tape on the thread and screwed them in. No need for the back nut and no leaks so far. The flow is very controllable and is much better than the standard taps. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I was just Googling these t...

Re: Kegs.

Thanks Cob! All makes sense, I’m pretty careful with them but maybe not quite enough! Bottling a such a faff so kegs seemed a good way forwards - particularly as I don’t want to just throw them away. I use a new bung each time but makes no odds if the beer goes down the drain! Is there any way I ca...

Re: Wheeler 'dry hop with a few cones...'

Couldn't kill my curiosity - just weighed out a similar amount - reckon I put in about 4g.

Re: Wheeler 'dry hop with a few cones...'

It had 27g Challenger pellets at 60 mins and 10g Fuggles pellets at 10mins. Not overly hoppy. I added about 10 pellets (should have weighed them for reference). I tasted it before I added them as was testing gravity and it will be interesting to see If I notice any aroma changes on the next reading/...

Wheeler 'dry hop with a few cones...'

Just coming to the end of fermenting GW's recipe for Everards Tiger and it says 'dry hop with a few cones of Goldings'.

I've only got pellets so anyone got a thought on how many pellets/weight I should throw in to equate 'a few cones'?

Re: clearing beer

Yeast is rich in purines, the cause of gout and gout flare ups. Does your father take anything for his gout? I take 200mg Allopurinol each day and make sure my beer is crystal clear before drinking it in any quantity. No gout flare ups for years! The worst thing about gout is having to avoid aspara...

Eric - used the Graham Wheeler recipe for it. Bit of crystal and a tiny bit of black malt.
