Is this clear enough?

I have to say that I have been quite lucky with my brewing so far. Every one has been pretty clear, and now I have been bottling, I am getting some good carbonation. Although on my last lot of bottling, I had to leave around 10 litres in a barrel because I don't have enough bottles. Youngs Definitiv...

Re: Starting to get addictive?

So far all looks good, had a look against a light and nothing seems to be floating.
Sampled a couple more over that last few days and all tasting fine.
Might just be a fluke.

Re: Starting to get addictive?

No. In fact stronger Beers often finish with less attenuation. Recipe dependent of course but a standard Lager is still Beer and usually they don't finish at 1.000. I have no idea why this one did. Standard kit, used everyday granulated sugar, temps too high (27C most of the time), only 20l instead...

Re: Starting to get addictive?

I just realised I forgot to mention that I brewed both short, 20l instead of 23l, that might be why it ended up so low.

Just the job for a pint in the sunshine then?
As you suggested, it is on the dry side, not that I am complaining.
Hoping for more sunshine when it has finished conditioning.

Re: Starting to get addictive?

That seems really bonkers low gravity, it will probablyfloat away when you try and pour it! Won’t it be very very dry as a result? Have you tried a drop? An infection is a possibility I'm afraid. Ale yeast is not able to go that low, not so sure about Lager yeast as I don't make them but would be v...

Re: Starting to get addictive?

Just have to ask. You have checked the hydrometer is reading properly, haven't you? ie 1.000 in water. Apologies if you've already done this. Guy I did wonder if it was reading correctly, so checked it the other day, 1.000 in tap water. I am really not sure how the Mad Millies dropped so low, still...

Re: Starting to get addictive?

I am not sure how it dropped that low, I was expecting it to be 1.004 minimum.
I am wondering if it is because the fermenting temps were higher than they should have been, between 22C and 24C.

I'm sure you mean the brewing and not the drinking ;-)
I have been addicted to the drinking far longer than the brewing

Re: Help

Hi all I’m Simon new to all this brewing did a Muntons docklands porter and it was fab! My second brew I have tried is the muntons ipa but it’s been in a plastic keg for about 2 months but the abv hasn’t gone up on the hydrometer and I have noticed the tap on the pressure barrel has a leak. Could t...

Re: Mad Millie?

Just took the FG at 1.000 on mine, 15 days in the bucket. Realised I put OG at 1.035 above, checked my note and it was 1.036. Brewers friend ABV calculator puts it 4.7%. https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/105955126_10159862440609377_6093970328089968952_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&_nc_sid=07e735&_nc...

Re: Mad Millie?

If the starting gravity was 1.035 it is unlikely to reach 4.2%. That would mean it needs to ferment down to around 1.002. Still, i’m sure it will make a nice session beer - let us know how it turns out :) The Coopers Golden Crown kit started at 1.035 and ended up at 1.004, just under 4.1%, so wishf...

Starting to get addictive?

Just put Mad Millie lager and Youngs Definitive lager in the fermenting buckets.
The Golden crown is conditioning nicely, so I should have enough empty bottles for at least one of these two when they are ready.
One will have to go in a barrel though.
