Re: McEwans No 1 Champion (With Pics)
Resurrecting an old thread. Next up is a McEwans Champion my first attempt at this. Anyone brewed this recently? My recipe is pretty much same as DC's but with 100g smoked malt, is this too much? I'll mash at 68C for this full bodied beer. Any ideas on water profile given that originally it was brew...

Re: Food dehydrator
Get a cabinet style one with temperature control and trays that can be swapped around. The hops at each level wont dry equally so you can easily swap out a damper bottom tray to the top. I dried mine at 42C to give better quality (commercially its done in the 50s C). Each full batch dried out to 10o...

Re: Gelatin
Thanks for that Jocky, I'll try using less of the sheets next time. I hate wasting stuff.

To pasteurise the gelatin I put the container in the microwave and heated to 75C and left it for 5 mins before using.

Re: Gelatin
It was Dr Oetker leaf gelatin raided from the baking ingredients cupboard, I'm sure she'll never find out. The packets are 13g 8 leaves. I used 4. On the basis 4 sets a pint of liquid, the same as a packet of powdered gelatin would. The Malt Miller's sheets are 100g packets 10 sheets each 10g. I won...

Re: Gelatin
Will do that, when I next have a beer that would benefit from the addition. I don't want to experiment on a whole 5 gallons and potentially destroy a days brewing effort. I don't follow a vegetarian diet but have friends who do, they often ask questions about ingredients in the beer I foist on them....

Re: Gelatin
Anyone know if veggie gel used for making vegetarian jelly dessert would work to clear beer instead of regular gelatine. Most beers I just let time do the work of clearing but sometimes poor flocculating yeasts need a hand. Most answers are correct, more kegs, patience etc but no answer for veg gel....

Re: Dairy Bleach
I use this, Deosan Red Label Hypochlorite 20 litres container costs £12 from our local agricultural supplier. This is used on dairy farms and in swimming pools. Dilution rate is 100ml per 40 litres water. It needs rinsing after use, the formulation makes this easy to do leaving equipment sweet smell...
