Re: Grainfather grain mill

Flip side is my 25kg sacks often last over 12 months and seem to resemble the hoover bag towards the bottom - maybe I should just ditch and buy new or the 5x5 option from TMM. I divide my 25kg sack the day it arrives into 4 or 5kg tubs. They stack well, store well, are air tight, mouseproof and if ...

Re: Grainfather grain mill

So… here we are a year later … did you get one?? I’m interested though still stuck in the shiny new toy vs useful space. I don’t brew that often so seems rather excessive. Flip side is my 25kg sacks often last over 12 months and seem to resemble the hoover bag towards the bottom - maybe I should jus...

Re: Missed my numbers by a country mile!

Thanks guys. I need to work backwards as suggested and see what’s happened where, then compare to Brewfather. I’m probably not using the software right as it’s a clever bit if kit! Confused that my Tilt2 and hydrometer are giving different readings. One needs to be calibrated but which?! The Tilt2 s...

Missed my numbers by a country mile!

Hi there, Today I brewed a simple English best bitter. Brew number 10 so still very new - I get different trials and tribulations each time!! In summary: 3.4kg m/otter 0.25kg medium crystal 0.1kg dark crystal Boil for 68c for 75 mins. Add 29g north down at 60 mins (leaf) Add 23kg east Kent holdings ...

Re: Mild

One question regarding adding protofloc tablets at 15 mins then later whirlpooling ... the tablets helps mass settle yet whirlpooling stirs it all up. So do you let everything settle for say a further 15 mins after whirlpooling then chill? I’m guessing yes! Whirlfloc should be added the last 5 minu...

Re: Mild

Like it!
I try to avoid adding syrup etc, keen to stick to Manx brewing purity law and just using malts ... so any tips on substituting invert sugars, golden syrup and treacle for the real deal?
Loving the chat!

Re: Mild

Last question hopefully (he says in a Columbo way!).
The BYO recipe says mash @ 68c. This sounds high, I know mild should be fairly thin but wouldn’t say 65-66 be better for preserving some body?

Re: Mild

I didn’t know about Mild May, but coincidentally I just kegged this recipe from BYO and will put it on beer engine in May. I used Wyeast Ringwood. A sample from the fermenter was absolutely delicious. https://byo.com/recipe/british-dark-mild-ale/ Excellent, I was thinking along those lines but poss...
