Re: St Peter's Winter Ale

I wonder if Fuggled Mind is still around and if he managed to come up with a recipe for „somthing quite porterish, definitely winter-warmerish and with a thick collar of foam.“

Re: Beers (late 19th Century and 20th Century)

To be honest, I did not intend to say middleman, but simply „a person who takes part in a conversation“…

Re: Beers (late 19th Century and 20th Century)

Thank you for not shooting me. It did feel a little bit like it, though.

PS: I had to look up the word „interlocutor“ myself. There must be a more common word for it, but it doesn‘t come to mind.

Re: Beers (late 19th Century and 20th Century)

Colindo is an interesting peer, indeed. Yes, he is a fellow German. He may have studied in England though. He is very seriously committed regarding British Ales and Beers. Maybe you want to have a look into his youtube chanel "The British Pint" to get to know him a little bit better: https://www.you...

Though you don't care for a bit of DIY you've said (you'll perhaps have to pray harder?).
I will try my very best. I am not totally useless in DIY matters, but try to avoid them if possible. Better give the monastery a call and ask them to light a candle though… 😉

Re: Moldy taste from Beer Engine does not go away

RLBS (ex EWL) it is. I will see what awaits me once the pump is opened. If I can‘t find the seals etc. locally, I will order the set from RLBS.

Re: Moldy taste from Beer Engine does not go away

The keg is not the problem. The beer from the keg tastes fine as long as it is not pumped through the beer engine. And every liquid I pump through (even water) smells and tastes mouldy after contact with the pump. Sending the pump back to England and having it „re-refurbished“ is way to expansive in...

Re: Moldy taste from Beer Engine does not go away

Unfortunately, the purchase was more than a year ago. I was not able to try out the beer engine due to health reasons and now I find myself with an expired warranty and a mouldy handpump. „Not my year“ sums it up nicely.

Nevertheless thanks for your advice!

Moldy taste from Beer Engine does not go away

I treated myself and purchased a refurbished beer engine from RLBS Ltd. However, the beer pumped through the engine takes on a nasty, moldy taste that ruins everything. When I asked RLBS what to do, they told me to pump beerline cleaner through the engine in order to get rid of the taste. Unfortunat...

Re: Crisp Session Bitter

But 6X is a dark amber colour, and while very much a British session beer isn't one of the Summer "golden ales" you get now. Therefore I will stick with the "Crisp Session Bitter" (or a slight variation thereof) for this particular brew, as I am aiming for something dark golden, perhaps with the sl...

Re: Crisp Session Bitter

The Crisp recipe adds Caramalt for "body", the very similar recipe I sketched out (Wadworth 6X clone) adds sugar to dilute what could be excessive body! Just looked up the Wadworth 6X recipe in Graham Wheelers book. Sounds delicious. What type of sugar are you planning to use for colouring? Right n...

Re: Crisp Session Bitter

It's a pretty standard British beer. Looking at my next one, OG1.040, IBU 22, 93% Pale Malt, 4% Crystal Malt, 3% Sugar - ooo, that's different - EKG for late hops, otherwise Fuggles, bit of colouring (I'll be using darker sugars and some black caramel colouring) ... not much different to your recip...

So what style do you like, a hoppy green soup, a brown biscuity bitter. I ask because a summer time ale for me is something in the middle?
That's exactly what I am looking for: something in the middle... but without being "dull".
