Let us know how it tastes.

Re: Irish Red Small Batch
Interested to hear what you think of the Caraaroma addition The caraaroma addition was very nice and is what helps give this beer it's red color. I get a slight nuttiness and a tinge of dark caramel and it adds beautifully to the aroma. Here's a pic of the beer it's one I keep in my regular rotatio...

Re: Ales and Beers (17th, 18th and a bit of 19th Century)
Of course they didn't need a hydrometer. They didn't have the technology. The hydrometer is simply an advancement in technology that allows more precise control of the process as it measures density directly. You can use less efficient techniques or more modern ones that produce more consistent resu...

About ~6 points away from final gravity at 2.5 days of fermentation. Airlock smells great!

Re: Parti gyle IBU advice please!
Nick did a 2 hour boil where as I stuck to a 1 hr, he did boil a fair bit off tbf probably around 6 litres. Hydrometers calibrated to 20c and pre boil wort was about 30c Perplexing I'm wondering if there something going on with the preboil readings stratification maybe? You would have had to boil o...

Re: Irish Red Small Batch
If you’re in the US, Bobby from New Jersey sells a submersible element that makes boiling full batches on the stove easy. With the burner helping it comes to a boil as fast as propane. Then I move to the back small burner and the extractor fan keeps steam to a minimum. F0A62730-6B28-4FA5-A2C7-CB050...

Re: Irish Red Small Batch
Sounds good! I can see the attraction of small batch brewing on the stove. I have a 19L setup entailing a boil kettle (38L), cooler mash tun (45L), and a propane burner. It's cold outside right now this time of year and I had a 20L pot sitting around so I picked up a bag and adjusted some recipes. ...

Re: Parti gyle IBU advice please!
Well the day went perfectly! Started at 9 and I was home with a full fermenter at 5:30! It was really weird though as we both took pre boil gravity readings and they were both sat at 1.070 so we thought that the stronger brew (first runnings) had got really bad efficiency. Then the after the boil r...

Re: Irish Red Small Batch
Milled grains to .030" (.76 mm) might close the gap more next time which is the great thing about BIAB! I normally run my mill at .032" (.81mm) for my full 19L batch sparge setup. 2 Row Malt 72.5% Caraaroma 9.3% Carafoam 4.6% Melanoidin 4.6% Honey (at flameout) 9% .75 oz (21.3 grams) crystal (3% aa)...

Re: iSpindel angle drifting in pure water
"phantom fiddler" . There is no one way. I don't take samples. I know when it's done. This sort of falls into the same category as Eric's yeast. If I need to cross check my nose - I taste, so ime these things are a good training device and then get left on the self, with titration glassware, vaccuu...
