That's a pretty nifty hop drying rack. Any idea where to source something like that?

Sorry I couldn't make it along afterwards, feeling pretty unwell and had to bail.
Hope you had a good night. End up in the Swan this time?

Re: Hop Growing 2013
How are you folk drying your hops out after picking? Last year I put them in the airing cupboard, which worked great, but I've moved since and will have to cobble something together this year. Was hoping to do a green beer this year, but the 4 varieties look to be all ripening at different times so ...

I happily leave hops in tea balls throughout the duration in the corny, often months at a time, with up to 40g. Never had any grassiness.

Re: Hop Growing 2013
2x mathon aka Farnham whitebine (1st year) Think you'll find that's a Canterbury Whitebine! Take a look at Eadweard's blog http://edsbeer.blogspot.com/ seems Farnham got there first Good job on the garden, a little short for most of your varieties but the First Gold will love it. The steel w...

Could be birds. Any sign of the leaves being munched or is it just the tip's missing?Cazamodo wrote:Somethings eating my growing tips.
Ive been training the largest bine along my trellis and now two of my three hop plants have had the growing tip taken off! Not happy!

Re: Hop Growing 2013
Stepped up my hop growing this year: 2x cascade (1st year) 2x mathon aka Farnham whitebine (1st year) 2x northdown (1st year) 1x first gold (3rd year, but dug it up and moved it each year so far) Here's the first gold, planted separately from the rest of the hops, along a fence. Being a dwarf variet...

Re: Hop Growing 2013
I don't want to play the gooseberry but if I can butt in on this thread my Mathon has now emerged, though as it's in Surrey I've decided it can now revert to being a Farnham Whitebine: http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss352/eadweard/whitebine_zpsc485f48d.jpg Very much enjoyed reading your blog Ed...

Re: Mash pH consistently low! Help!
Have u tried CRS (carbonate reduction solution). Something like 1mL per litre of liquor should do the trick for putting it in the 5.3 region
