Re: Beer Engine Sparkler on a Cornie Keg
They are creamers, not sparklers. Same thing, no? I know some people refer to sparklers with smaller holes as "creamers", but they're under the "sparkler" family to me. Pushing carbonated beer through a sparkler will create a beer foam. Pulling carbonated beer through a sparkler doesn't though. Sur...

Beer Engine Sparkler on a Cornie Keg
I've got a standard cornie keg setup with party taps. Has anyone ever rigged up something to force beer through a sparkler on its way into the glass with a setup like this? I know it's often done with cornie kegs and beer engines, that's not what I mean. I also know it would have to be a pretty Heat...

Re: Another 45 litre Igloo Mash Tun
Couple of questions on this.
I've got a coolbox with a 15mm diameter hole in it. Will the straight adapter used here fit that? (BES part no 7786)?
Also, are you supposed to user washeres with the straight adapter? (Where the metal screws down onto the coolbox)?
Many thanks.

Re: CO2 Regulator Help
Thanks for the refurb tip. I've emailed that ebay user. Gauges came out fine - no probs. I'm eager to keep the one I've got if possible because it's micromatic, has saftey release valves, is side canister mounted and has a screw out rather than a barb. Most of the ones I'm seeing on ebay fail on at ...

CO2 Regulator Help
I've got a micromatic CO2 regulator that looks almost identical to this: http://www.micromatic.com/draft-keg-beer/regulators-pid-642.html The only difference being that mine has a screw fitting on the out rather than a barb. I've just dropped my CO2 canister with regulator attached off a platfrom ab...

Re: Mashing Thicker
This might be of interest: The most common secondary factor that I've heard influences fermentability is the water-to-grain ratio of the mash. It is often said that thicker mashes yield less fermentable worts. I’d never paid too much attention to this rule, but it is worth knowing (especially if you...

Re: Brewdog Libertine Ale recipe attempt?
Right, I think they use a british ale yeast for all their beers. I haven't tried it so I can't comment other than that. Be interested to know how you get on! Surely that can't be right! All of their hop-forward beers (Punk, IPA is Dead, Hardcore, Dead Pony Club, Chaos Theory, ...) have basically ze...

Re: Cutting Brew Time
Another thing I do is that I don't re-circulate when I run off. Instead I just run off through a fine mesh and catch any stray bits of grain that way. Saves a bit more time. 95% of the beer I make is either dark or dry hopped and fermented with US05, so a clear beer is against the odds whether I re-...

Re: Cutting Brew Time
60/60 here too. No issues. Other ways that I've managed to cut brewing time without impact to the finished product include: 1. Shorter brewlength: mash liqour heating, sparge liqour heating, wort up to boil and cooling all take less time. 2. Take the hit on efficiency and don't sparge. Mash and the...

Re: US -O5 at high temperature in primary?
The beer will be OK. S05 is pretty neutral and any potential esters will be subtle. Plus, you brewed a very hoppy beer so any esters will be thwarted by the pungency of the hops. I've found the opposite of this to be true. I know US05 is often thought of as being a low ester producer, but when I've...

Re: ATC 800+ Wiring
Hi, I think I may be misunderstanding - that seems to be the other way around to what it was doing in the first post when whatever you plugged in 'never' got power? Both were right. Anything I plugged into the trailing sockets didnt turn on ... suggesting no power. Yet, when I tested the live in ea...

Re: ATC 800+ Wiring
Thanks for all the help. I've tested each plug socket (cooling and heating) and both live terminals seem to be recieving power no matter what the light on the temp controller shows. If I've carried out the wiring correctly (which it looks like I have) ... I dont understand why this would be the case...

Re: ATC 800+ Wiring
Im in London. Would it be an option to use an electircal testing screwdriver to diagnose the fault by trial and error? Touch it to each point along the live cables to see where the fault lies?

Re: ATC 800+ Wiring
How would you go about making a short? Bit out of my depth here. Does this all suggest that somehting could be wrong with the unit itself?
