Re: Where is the thin bleach? and what can I use instead?
I thought about caustic traffic film remover (TFR) but I think it contains some sort of soap and therefore likely to wreck head retention. Slayer, could you let us know exactly which dairy hypochlorite product you buy and how much we can expect to pay? The choice is a confusing! Same with pool produ...

CRS will remove beerstone. I think any acid will do, maybe vinegar would work. Brick acid is cheap but maybe to aggressive?

The no availability of thin bleach seems to have got worse - none in my local Tesco or Morrisons. Is it still available in Asda?

Re: Beer engines; keeping it fresh
Beer liner cleaner usually has less than 5% of chlorine-based bleaching agent Household bleach bottles normally quote the same figure. Dunno, though the thought occurs to me that if someone walks into a job at England Worthside, they don't suddenly become an authority on chemical reactions with bee...

Re: Beer engines; keeping it fresh
It shouldn't be a problem with thin bleach but probably would be with thick bleach, which is intended to cling to surfaces. Let's not forget that pub cleaning fluid is chlorine based.I have also learned to my cost that bleach/chlorine can permanently taint the pumps .

Re: Beer engines; keeping it fresh
I find I can drink from the beer engine after 24 hours without wasting any beer, at least in autumn, winter and spring. In summer, I'll throw away the first two pulls worth. This is in an unheated room. I clean with warm water dosed with thin bleach and washing up liquid (I've tried professional bee...

Re: Filtering Wine
I believe oxygenation is much less of a problem with wine than it is with beer. Look how winemakers 'whip' their wine to remove the CO2 - you wouldn't do that with beer.

Re: Beer cooler water treatment?
Is there any aluminium in a beer cooler? Mine appears to be copper, stainless and plastic.I would be hesitant with using a central heating corrosion inhibitor that is not fit for aluminium

Beer cooler water treatment?
Is there a product sold specifically to treat the water in the ice bath of beer coolers? Mine has a thick growth of green sludge.

Re: Brite Tank Cooling with Maxi 110
I've been using the same beer cooler for about 15 years to control fermentation temp. I leave the compressor on permanently (controlled by the beer coolers own ice-stat)and my ATC 800 controls the recirc pump to manage fermentation temp. I can understand the concerns that the pump is also the agitat...

Re: Am I killing my enzymes?
Wanus, that's a very good question! I went to HERMS because I wanted to recycle and get crystal clear wort, to stop winter heat loss, because everyone else seems to do it and I thought I might be missing out and also because I like bodging new kit.

"I have RIMS, but avoid recycling at the initial stages"
That's what I'm thinking now - do a conventional infusion mash for about 30-40 min, then start recycling after most of the conversion has taken place?
