Re: Cider!

I know this isn't the answer to the OP, but since we're talking cider, there's a guide on the site written by a former regular on here about making cider from apples. May be of interest to cider makers! Authentic Breton Cider Making I recall finding that when I first stumbled across the site Jim, s...

Re: Cider!

Wow, that's great and just what I was after. Popped into Lidl today and saw some juice cheap and thought 'I must have a go at a cider, I'll check it out tonight'

Guess where I'm off to tomorrow!

+ 1 on the kudos points.... =D>

Re: Crate that will hold 750ml leffe style bottle

Nice i think i might just do that .Trouble is most pallets at my work seem to nailed with twist nails ones that are near impossible to remove. I've taken dozens apart for various DIY tasks, and tried all sorts. Best thing I did was buy a little Stanley tools 'Wunder bar' pry bar (less than a tenner...

Re: Woodfordes Wherry, different!

Well I've now done three of these kits and two have stuck at 20. No more after this one, which will either end up down the sink or as 40 pints worth of shandy fodder!

Re: Anyone using stainless pipe over copper?

Isn't that stuff still copper on the inside though? I've used similar on a house job a couple of years ago, albeit I think that was polished chrome not stainless, but if it is the same 'type' then you'll negate the point as copper will be the exposed surface to brews and chemicals. Sorry if I've mis...

Much better to just rehydrate the yeast in plain water, you end up with a much healthier yeast population
Here's me thinking you mixed it with sugar or something! You learn something new everyday.... :D

I'll get it made up and chuck it, nothing to lose now....

Re: Kit yeast, expiry query

I appear to have yet another stuck Wherry #-o I've given it a gentle stir yesterday when it read .024 (two days running) and a check this afternoon looks like around .022, so a negligible change if any in my book. The only thing I think I can try is to add the original yeast and see if that kicks it...

Re: split a kit 4 ways?

My plan was to split the brew when I'd typically transfer to secondary, but I appreciate it's not everyone's MO. For that reason I wouldn't have any to left in the primary FV, but for some (possibly irrational) reason I wouldn't want to leave a couple of gallon on top of the yeast cake left over fro...

Re: split a kit 4 ways?

Well I can't think of any reason why not, and I'll be watching this thread to see the common consenus; I hope to do just as you suggest myself, in particualr to make up a coffee stout in a few brews time, as my stout drinking pal hates coffee but I want to have a go at one! The only problem I can se...

Re: Brew shed condensation - roof hatch?

I'm currently in the process of sorting my shed out and have a similar concern. My plan is to remove a couple of the fixed perspex windows (naff, knackered and don't open!) and replace with exterior ply with a vent connected to an old kitchen extractor which will sit above. I do have the luxury of a...

Re: Poorly fermentation fridge!

Well it was the heating element (I had wired it up incorrectly first time Lord Groan, but that wasn't the cause this time :-)). As I had nothing to lose I took it apart yesterday, and after drilling the rivets out I found the heating 'element' (thin wire) had burnt out where it connects to the temri...

I hope you left feedback to that effect, that is pretty pi$$ poor really.

DId you actually go into the physical shop for some other stuff too, or have I misread that?
