Re: Santa brought me a second bucket...

Brew the same kit in both buckets, and allow to ferment normally.

Last day. Bucket one, bottle/keg as normal.
Also bucket two into bucket one.

Next day, barrel/bottle second brew.

Leave both the normal amount of time. Taste both, see if you notice the difference.

Re: good wine kit?? recomedations please

If you enjoy a decent red, then you can't really go wrong with these though. Start saving wine bottles and build up a nice cellar.
Been told that they are every bit as good as a mid price wine from t' supermarket.

I like to leave reds about 6 months, but you can do as you wish. It's still drinkable when 'young'

Re: Bank holiday is brew day

The Boss helped as I put a stout on. I say helped. Decided that *that* was the time she wanted breakfast, put the washing on, etc. She doesn't mind the brewing, quite likes the smell, and will occaisionally steal my drink, but only if I pour it first. Wish I could brew more, but I'm on one of those ...

Re: Airlock question

As long as the water in the housing of the airlock is above the lowest part of the 'top hat' part, you should be dandy.

You've probably displaced some of the water with bubble activity?

Re: Why Coopers?

They are very reliable, and you can do the same can twice and get the same taste.
Some cans are a bit more hit and miss.

Good bang for your buck too, as my Uncle Sam would say.

Re: Brewers in the Plymouth area

Plymouth brewer (well, not done one for YONKS! stupid diets) not heard of one. Seems the sort of thing you could ask at the Hop Shop about though, if there was one within a reasonable distance, he'd probably know about it.

Re: Poor lid on cornie? Need something to help the seal?

Could possibly try putting something between the legs of the clip and the top of the keg so that the clip pulls the lid tighter to the top of the keg?
With a smear of PJ it might let it seal.

Re: Cornwall HBS

Definately the one in Plymouth. Knowledge there is good and the boss always has time for you. Worth the trip if you can find something else to do in Plymouth. Or, pester the guys in Penzance to improve their range. If you know what you want they might be able to get it for you cheaper than you trave...
