Re: Plastic conical fermenters - any good?

Scott-ayling,

Thanks. Can you tell me 2 things: How are the taps fitted (ie stainless ferrule etc) and how does the airlock go through the (I presume hollow) lid?

TIA,

JB

Re: Plastic conical fermenters - any good?

I have one of the Speidel 30L ones Interesting, I had a look at one of those. Haven't written it off yet... Basically I'm choosing between the Speidel, the Polish one, and Brewbuilder's stainless one. I'm going to need several so of course I'd prefer not to pay stainless prices if I don't need to. ...

Re: Plastic conical fermenters - any good?

Thanks for the kind offer Aleman! However I have some tanks similar to yours already. I have trouble getting and keeping them clean (I don't use them for brewing beer and so I don't have the antibacterial advantage that hops give), and cleanliness is very important to me. I'm hoping these have less ...

Plastic conical fermenters - any good?

Hi all, Some while ago a Polish company (domowybrowarek.pl) kindly alerted this forum to their product: http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=66648 http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://domowybrowarek.pl/pl/ferme...

Re: Plastic conical FV build - pics

Just wondering how the lid setup for this build worked out? Did you find it satisfactory in the end?

Re: Conical fermenter & yeast harvest

Cheers Adomant. However I should rephrase:

Do you or anyone else have experience of using a conical without a second tap in the side of the cone? Or is it just a non-starter?

Cheers,

Re: Conical fermenter & yeast harvest

Thanks Adomant I have both available, the flat-bottoms have a tap and these are what I normally use. I also have a 60L conical, but it has no racking arm fitted. Ideally I would prefer not to pierce the side of the tank to fit one. Do you or anyone else have experience of using a conical without a r...

Conical fermenter & yeast harvest

If I do not plan to harvest yeast for reuse is there any advantage of a conical fermenter over a flat-bottomed one? Is there a disadvantage?

Cheers all,

Re: Dissolved Oxygen Meter

You can get DO electrodes relatively cheaply from Sentek (http://www.sentek.co.uk/dis.html). The galvanic ones are maintenance-free and last about 2 years. they produce a voltage depending on the DO level which could possibly be read using a sensitive voltmeter. The range is 0V for zero oxygen to ab...

Re: whole unmilled raw wheat - how to mash

I'll stick to the traditional recipe, only so I don't have to 'fess up that people are drinking breakfast cereal. However should I get caught short on wheat again I won't hesitate to use either Shredded Wheat or rolled spelt, and just keep it a secret!

Re: Cheap'n'Easy Light Wit (Hoegaarden-ish)

Maybe. Do you think a short protein rest would give smaller proteins and so more cloudiness? This is a bit backwards compared to the normal pursuit of clear beer!

Re: Dissolved Oxygen Meter

Bubbling pure O2 is a waste of money, it is really quite insoluble and so effectively all of it will be wasted. Better off bubbling air through, the other gases in air won't really affect the solubility of O2, and air costs much less than bottled gas. You can also increase the dissolved O2 (up to t...

Re: Dissolved Oxygen Meter

Thanks for the reply, I`m going to have to do some more reading up I think. Basically the experiment at the moment consists of boiling water for 30mins to drive off the oxygen, cooling to 20 c, measure amount of oxygen in boiled water, bubbling pure oxygen through the water at 1 or 2 ltr per min fo...
