Re: My First try at Mead.......
Sounds like you had a great time and I'm not talking about the wellies!
You are now discovering the main danger of Mead... It tastes so good that it can be difficult to stop drinking it.
We've all been there.

Welcome to the world of Mead WA, I'm expecting great things from you, or at least unusual.
You are now at the hardest part, letting time it do its' thing without too much input from you.
Can't wait for HBF2018 for battle to commence!

Re: Offer of honey .
Hi Dean
I would be very interested in your honey if it is still available. If you let me know shipping charges to Lancashire I would be happy to trade for half a dozen bottles of the resulting mead.
Please let me know.
Thanks
Adam

Re: Took the plunge
None of mine have got past 9 months. The one at the first festival was only 3 months old. The most recent one was 9 months. The additions on top of water, honey and yeast, seem to mask a multitude of possible issues. Also I've read that sweeter meads need less time than dry meads. Having said that, ...

Re: Took the plunge
The trick is to start a batch every 2-3 months. That way you don't run out and you pick up a prize at the festival!

Re: Where to start with mead?
I think that may be too much honey. The calculation is approx 1lb of honey in a 5 gallon batch equals 1% ABV. If your yeast tolerance is 15%, 15lb of honey is medium, less honey will finish dry and more will finish sweet. This is fairly approximate but should give you a starting point. Someone with ...

Re: Shipping Beer
First, used pet bottles as they won't break and are lighter, therefore cheaper.
Second, pack in a box rather than a tube, again this will be cheaper as the length bumps up the price.
Then check online for any courier service currently doing special offers, they do from time to time.

Re: Is my wherry knackered?
Hi SiMania First, it's worth giving the beer some more time to see how it develops. If it starts to go downhill, drink it as fast as you can! If it improves then happy days! :D As for the fermenter, thoroughly clean it. Remove seals and soak them and make sure you get any dirt or gunk out of every n...

Re: How to turn an urn into a kettle?
Hi jceg I BIAB so it is effectively both. I also insulate the Buffalo with a couple of adapted camping mats and brew in the doorway of my shed where it is nicely sheltered. Maybe this would help achieve a better boil? As you say, maybe yours is slightly under powered. The insulation does make the bo...

Re: How to turn an urn into a kettle?
I use an unmodified 40 lt Buffalo and have never had an issue getting a rolling boil. I just turn the dial to "full on" and off it goes.
Maybe worth trying before you start any alterations?
