Re: Recommend a Lager-like ale?

Has anyone used Mangrove Jack's M54 yeast in this sort of situation- described as "A unique lager strain that has the ability to ferment at ale temperatures without the associated off flavors. Extended lagering periods are also not required" - might be useful for the OP but no experience of it...

Integrated Fridge

Hi All. I'm struggling to find out if my Mangrove Jack ss fermenter will fit in a standard under counter larder fridge - so difficult getting internal dimensions from lower shelf upwards. Looking on flesabay etc. it looks like some integrated fridges have just a little more height. Can any one see a...

30l pre-boil volume in GF30.

Got a quick query and not at home right now to physically check my GF30. Is a preboil volume of 30l going to be a problem for the GF? Yep I know its called a GF30 for good reasons but I've only done one brew so far for a 23l batch and it was a good vigorous boil for the 23l batch - don't want things...

Re: Paul's Malt

Myself and three other brewer friends have been using it for the last few months and has been as good as any other malt I have used. We have tried the pale malt, maris otter malt, cyrstal malt and the lager malt, no problems with any of them. Hope this helps. Certainly does - cheers for the thumbs ...

Paul's Malt

Just sourcing ingredients for my next brew and my LHBS is selling 25kg bags of Maris Otter crushed grain from Paul's Malt. Don't know the price yet though. Malt Miller are the bees knees as we know (I'd use other phrases but decency keeps me straight) but I can't collect from them so the six quid de...

Re: Wort clear as bell on barreling but now very hazy.

Thanks orlando and PeeBee. Had a couple of friends around to test my brew and one is involved with my very local small brewery (Drone Valley). We discussed this haziness and we agree its prob a yeast haze from priming sugars as no bad tastes anywhere to be found. No fizzyness either though. They bot...

Re: Wort clear as bell on barreling but now very hazy.

Hi Jocky - ta for the thoughts. 1) chill haze - kept and served warm at a ambient room temp of 18°c so not a chill haze. 2) dry hopping - no dry hopping this brew. 3) yeast- yep used about 60g granulated sugar to carbonate. This may be it but thought I'd be through his layer after 4 pints drawn. Inf...

Wort clear as bell on barreling but now very hazy.

At a loss here to why my first AG brew is now very hazy on dispensing. Checked this forum and Google and still a tad confused. The beer tastes rather good indeed - very pleased with that aspect of my first AG so I don't think infection is the cause. It was a Hopping Hare clone and my very first GF30...

Re: 0.01g accuracy scales up to around 200g or 500g

Thanks @vacant and @Orlando Your comments made me chuckle too. @Orlando - I hope you're right and that 11g as opposed to 10g shouldn't be noticeable in a 30l boil/hopstand etc. @Vacant - my dad was a Sheffield copper a food few years ago and once brought back some scales from a drug bust. I used the...

Re: 0.01g accuracy scales up to around 200g or 500g

Sorry to bump this thread but can anyone recommend a cheapish set of kitchen scales that read to 0.1g? Mine only read to 1g and I don't think it'll be that accurate when trying to weigh just 10g of hops. Though the kitchen is my domain SWMBO needs them to be easy to use too. Google hasn't thrown up ...

Re: Mangrove Jack Fermenter in Swamp Cooler

I forgot to add that I have a controllable heat belt which helped keep temps stable on a previous kit brew earlier this year when temps were much cooler and that will prob be my heat source in a fermentation chamber when its put together (no doubt though I'll use an inkbird to control it) [emoji846]...

Re: Mangrove Jack Fermenter in Swamp Cooler

Chees Orlando. A fermentation chamber - aka an old fridge - is definitely in my plan. Just waiting to get power to my garage before getting on with that project. Can't wait to be able to control fermentation at all sorts of temps and cold crash too.

Re: Mangrove Jack Fermenter in Swamp Cooler

Time will tell if the FV likes the water bath but fingers crossed for my first AG brew - it's Seymour's Hopping Hare clone by the way, with extra Amarillo hops at flame out as that's what they are using just now.

Re: Mangrove Jack Fermenter in Swamp Cooler

Sadly nobody could advise so I pressed ahead with my very first AG brew ever using my new GF30. Brew day went generally ok thanks to advice on here and DH's YouTube videos (higher than expected OG - looking into it). Fermentation took off almost straight away so decided I needed to get the swamp coo...
