Re: Shed!
My last Kveik experiment was a last minute Christmas dark beer with ginger/spice and loads of choc/dark crystal malt that was really nice. I would say "unlike" this one! Party is off, my Dad took ill and died in June and dealing with the contents of his house and all the financial stuff is taking al...
Re: Shed!
So the beer is lovely and clear, fg 1.006 for abv 4.9%. It has a slightly odd yeasty sour aftertaste, it's clear the voss doesn't work in this style. If there was a big load of malty taste it would go. It's very well hidden by a dash of lime though, if only the sun would come out! Experimentation an...

Re: Crisps No. 9 Maris Otter
I generally use no19 and it all comes out fine. Mash at 65 for an hour, sometimes with a bit of a 75 mash out, but that's it.
What yeast is it - if I use crossmyloof ale /s04 it comes out about 1008, CML Five comes out about 1004

Re: The mysterious case of the diminishing sugar level…..
I got exactly that digital one and it destroys batteries in about a minute so need to remove them every use. I've gone back to a hydrometer (two actually). Did wonder if it was cheap AA batteries failing, we had a big boxful of them, it's somewhere in the shed now so I'd have to find it and try it w...
Re: Shed!
I use a copper coil in the boiler if I need to heat the hot tub, but the solar circuit (hosepipe on shed roof with a pump) gets it to 32 degrees anyway.

Shed!
We are planning a summer party which given I have a reputation as a brewer will require many gallons of beer. Having done a Nanny state clone yesterday, I set about 60ish Litres of Shed lager today. It's a basic Stella clone which goes down very well. https://share.brewfather.app/Te8GxXOLZitijw I've...

Re: Granny state!
Did the Nanny state recipe yesterday, forgot to check OG but stuck my ispindel in which said 1003 which usually means about 1008-1010 which is about right. Dumped the dry hops in this morning and will leave until the sludge settles in the bottom of the bucket!

Re: Granny state!
It turned out very nice, and in terms of was it drinkable - it has all gone. Making the brew dog nanny state version next, ordered all the hops in from Crossmyloof but been too busy with a number of life/family matters to get a brew on!

Re: BM mash time
Funnily enough my "Grandad" stout hits 8.5% roasted barley even though it was a completely home made recipe from my first all grain brew.

Re: Norwich Amateur Brewers - Brew Like a Monk competition.
Just giving the 18 day matured Quad a try and it's very good already. Grabbed one of the beginning/end of run bottles to test so it has some sediment that sits at the bottom of the glass, which is probably comparable with most of the quads I have drunk over the years! The Wit went completely clear i...

Re: Crisp Session Bitter
I really like centennial, did it in a SMASH with crisp extra pale malt as an Aussie sparkling ale lagerish thing, turned out very very good and I'll go back to it when I run out of the pride of ringwood I am using for my VB clone (have about 300g left so a way to go!).

Re: Crisp Session Bitter
I've spent the last couple of years as a novice grain brewer making bitter from crisp pale ale malt, a bit of wheat (or weetabix/aldi weet bisks) golden syrup/sugar, and about 100g/23L of crisp dark crystal for colour. Hops have mainly been goldings/fuggles but I'm currently on a Centennial at start...
