Re: Hop and Grain supplies

Yeah that's fair. I could call them. I'm down in Cornwall. Closest to me is Tuckers in Newton Abbott. About 1.5hrs drive. I was tempted to drive up if it was worth it but they do 25kg for about £25. Same price as HBS I agree it isn't a great price, but on the other hand it is floor malted and if y...

Something Fruity - ideas please

Yes, from memory the apricot/peaches comment is from Randy Mosher's book Radical Brews.

Looking to do a fruity brew myself for a party, and does seem to need a large amount per gallon.

Re: Raspberry Beret (Fruit Beer)

I'll be interested in the results of this. I fear that you will not have enough fruit in it!. My efforts in the past have been poor. The one thing I learned was the need for masses of fruit. Ever wondered why these beers are so expensive.........Fruit!! Yes, I've already started worrying about that...

Re: Raspberry Beret (Fruit Beer)

Orlando, did you ever brew this and how did it work out?

I've been asked to do a fruit beer for later in the the year and am leaning towards raspberry rather than cherry.

Re: Beer Engine

I wouldn't invert a corny keg, you are just asking for all the beer to leak out all over the floor, especially at low pressure. Why not just leave the keg the correct way up and take the beer out of the OUT post, as they are designed to work. Nice looking beer engines by the way :) =D> Absolutely a...

Re: Where to buy electrical boxes

Last time I was looking for a box I ended up on fleaBay. Seemed one place you could find enclosures with a good depth. It was a different project (as a base for a webcam I'm trying to set up outside), it was one like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PLASTIC-ENCLOSURE-TERMINAL-BOX-ADAPTABLE-GEWISS-GW4...

I went through the French ebay website last time I bought any. Worth dropping them an email re: shipping etc.

Re: insulating my boiler

I've just upgraded to a 70l boiler which will involve brewing outside on a propane burner. I've considered the heat losses and think that rather than insulating the boiler I'll go with making a stainless steel shroud to surround the burner and boiler - this will protect the burner from any breeze a...

It's a powdered cleaner containing oxalic acid, last lot I bought from Sainsbury. I think it is mildly abrasive.

Great for cleaning cornies to make them shiny - not tried it on plastic.

Re: Syphon Clip or Alternative

How about putting a piece of stainless tube from fleaBay on the end, it's heavy enough to sink and therefore stays still. For my tube I use a piece of 8mm OD, 6mm ID.

Don't need a clip then.

Re: Refractometer

Temperature correction isn't important a small drop of wort on the refractomer will almost instantly become the same temperature as the refractometer. Agree that the wort will quickly become the same as that of the refractometer (given the relative sizes of each). I think the temperature correction...

Re: Thermos Stock Pot as a Mash Tun?

Oh yes, quite a few people on here use them - they are a great solution. I bought one a while ago to replace a plastic cool box and have been very pleased with it, its the right size for me brewing 5 gallon brews with scope to go up to high gravities. The classic thread on converting one of these is...

Re: Quick Survey - How many Cornies have you got?

4 x 11l and 6 x 19l - two of which arrived yesterday from Norm. :D

Two of the big and two of the small are in need of some time and attention to be sure seals and poppets are working.

Re: Gas boiler build - dumb question

Thanks Stu, saw the paella ones - can't find the site with info now but it looked like they could really throw out the power. Also thought that the weight would be too much to sit straight on it. So I'd need to build a frame and being frank that just looked like a bridge too far for someone of my DI...
