Appropriate use of cara red...

Post by Bailey » Fri May 24, 2013 4:33 pm

Just making a malty bitter with ekg as the only hop. In my grain bill I have 80% pale, 15% carared, 5% crystal60.
Had a look on the malt miller website and had a quick search here but wondering if that is too much carared??? Any help much appreciated :)

Up to 25% seems to be the agreed amount. Although there are no rules. Let us know how you get on. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if the crystal masked it to be honest...

Carared is crystal malt, just good bit paler than yours regular. Imparts more sweetness and caramel tastes, but otherwise general rule of amount of crystal in grain bill applies.
