Vienna malt ?
Vienna malt ?
Hi there everyone, i have trying to replicate one of my fvorate Larger ale's it's from the wylam brewery in England the ale is called locamotion 1 and if anybody has tried this brew well they will know why i want to replicate it.I have been told from a very good source that there use American Vienna malt in the brew, the problem iam finding is that i can't find the American Vienna malt only the german verison.I have looked on all the American home brew pages yet all i can find is the germen vienna malt.So i would like to ask is there any diffrence between the American vienna malt and the German vienna malt?. Or does anybody know where i can sorce the illusive American vienna malt?
Re: Vienna malt ?
I suspect that describing Vienna Malt as German or American is just telling you where it has been malted.
As long as it's kilned at 85-90 C and the colour is between 4 to 6 EBC it should do the job and give a malty flavour with caramel and toffee notes.
The Vienna Malt that Barleybottom sells for £1.59 per kilo should do the job for you.
I hope this helps. Further clarification may follow.

I really doubt that there would be enough of a difference (if any) to justify the shipping cost of ordering from an American supplier.
I'm just here for the beer.
