Fawcett bulk buy
Fawcett bulk buy
I've seen previously that people have arranged to put together for a bulk buy from Thomas Fawcetts in Castleford and wondered if anyone was interested in doing it again. They only do orders of at least 10 25kg sacks. I require a couple of sacks of pale Maris otter and would split some crystal malt. If anyone is interested, send me a private message or post here. A sack of Maris Otter Pale is less than £17 and Crystal is under £19 for 25kg.
Re: Fawcett bulk buy
In the works of getting my AG set up, ill jump in on that if i manage to get it sorted in time

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
I would be very interested if there was reasonable delivery charges
Re: Fawcett bulk buy
I'll have a couple of sacks of maris otter...when are you looking at buying them? & are they milled ?
Re: Fawcett bulk buy
All the malts can be milled or whole. I've been in touch with other users and if anyone wants some ordering please send a private message to Softlad he is putting an order together and will be placing it soon.
Re: Fawcett bulk buy
Does softlad know he's been nominated for a bulk order?
As far as I know he can no longer cater for a massive order and was looking for the minimum 10 sacks order, of which I think he already has 8.

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
I'm looking to get up to Fawcetts in the not too distant.
I currently have an order for 8 sacks, plus whatever Leedsbrew is after.
I can take some malt down to J31 of the M1 for collection from mine. I think I could get around 10 sacks in the truck so the order wont be massive. Not sure how LB is fixed for space in his car to take Leeds way but I'm guessing that he wont have the 7.5 tonner that he had for the last collection.
Delivery wont be available. Sorry but it becomes a logistical nightmare to start shipping around the country. That, plus its being sold on at cost and I have no desire to do this and make money. Equally, it cant interfere with the day job which pays for my beer related nonsense.
That said, PM me if youre interested. Will be strictly first come, first served.

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
Nothing to stop groups doing this.
We do this from Ireland, one of the lads gets an order together (40 sacks, a full pallet) then gets it shipped to his place for collection by everyone else.
Cheap grain for sure

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
It's been done a few times in the Yorkshire area but the usualy helpful suspects just don't have the time or space they used to have. I think they got 30 sacks or so last year.Spud395 wrote:Nothing to stop groups doing this.

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
I'd happily get a pallet delivered here. SWMBO may not be happy with her car being left outside until the pile is collected but I could live with that.
The challenge seems to be lack of people in the area that are able to pick up.
It makes sense for a group purchase to save a few quid. I'm happy to drive to Cass to pick it up but its not something that I'd want to do commercially, plus there are plenty out there who are doing a great job of providing AG supplies at reasonable prices.
Its the Yorkshireman in me that wants it even cheaper that forces me to buy malt in bulk.

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
I'm up for a couple of sacks of pale if this is still going on. I can pick up no problems

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
Just seen your post
I picked the order up on Friday unfortunately
Could've carried a couple more sacks as well
Sorry fella

Re: Fawcett bulk buy
I enjoy being part of and organising the bulk buys.
It's a great way to meet like minded brewers, swap brews and equipment and of course get malt at great prices.
I used to live within sniffing distance of Fawcetts', so it was not much of a problem getting 30 bags in a couple of car loads.
Anyone starting their own my words of advice.
It is quick and easy shifting full bags.
Ask for empty bags if you are planning to split bags. They may or may not charge extra they may give you new or used.
splitting is time consuming and thirsty work, keep plenty of ale within easy reach. I wouldn't split to below 1/5th, but normally half for base malts.
I haven't move too far from Cas so I'll probably do another run late on this year or very early best year.
Thanks softlad for the bag this time round, It was good to see you again.
Cheers
