DME. Can you?

First of all I'm not surehow to word this but here goes.

If a recipe calls for 3kg of extra light spraymalt can you use Medium or darker and cut it with some thing?

Reading the post's on this section I feel a bit of a pleb. =P~ Lots to learn.

Hi Cellone!

You can't really make darker dmes lighter. Although a brew made with half light and half dark DME would be lighter than an all dark DME brew I guess.

Don't forget that its not just about the colour - a darker DME will have a different flavour to the lighter one. Thinking about it in all-grain terms its a bit like trying to make a pilsner if you only have brown or black malt...
