Pale malt

Post by Deller12 » Sat Dec 15, 2012 1:35 pm

I have been buying my Marris otter from a local micro brewery for some time. A friend of mine picks it up on the way to work for me. I got a bag this week and it's marked up pale malt  so looks like this could have been sent in error. Just wondering what's the difference between Marris otter and pale malt ? I was hoping to brew this weekend but not sure if I could use pale malt as the base malt?

You will be fine using it, Maris Otter is a variety of malt that is malted pale. Other varieties that can be malted pale are Golden Promise, Halcyon, Tipple and a number of other varieties.

If the brewery specified malt is Marris Otter then more than likely it is. Who is the maltster? I ask as Fawcetts print down the side of the sack the variety and production date etc.
