Exactly the same stuff, usually. Often cheaper from a home brew shop

You can. Rolled oats are already gelatinised so there's no need for a cereal mash.

Tesco do 500g of quakers rolled oats for 1.20 which sounds reasonable

Used oats for the first time on last brew. The recipe said rolled oats so I got the same as sbond above from tescos. Still in fv at the moment so can’t confirm how it turned out yet.

I often use porridge oats in my brews. I just use the cheapest I can find. Usually Asda Smartprice, under £1 for a Kg I think.

I just use ‘Moonflake’ oats as it’s what I prefer for making porridge. They’re instant oats, so no cereal mash. I’ve made a very nice oatmeal stout with these added and also an IPA with a nod to the NE style.

I've toasted my own before now. I added them to quite a complex Stout grist so can't really say how much impact it had. From memory I toasted Tesco Scottish oats on a baking sheet at 100c, for as long as it took for significant colouration, without burning.
