Lets say.. I'm moving house. And I want to take my hops plants with me.
How do I go about removing the plant? Is there a specifc part of the root system which forms the rhizome? When is it best to do it? When I replant could I split the root complex to make more plants? Is it easier to pick up new rhizomes?
Cheers Matt

I am no expert wit hop plants but I am a keen gardener, I would think that you could move them just like any other plant that has a rhizome, just dig the lot up and keep it moist and replant at your new house. They will have two chances which is one more than if you just left them.

Re: Rhizomes
Thank for the reply. Is there a best time to do it? Because I could transfer to large pots, and then transfer to next garden?

The sooner the better before the weather gets too hot, make sure you give them a good watering before you dig them up and plant them ASAP then make sure you water them regularly in their new home.simple one wrote:Thank for the reply. Re: Rhizomes
I split my one year old plants this spring. I dug up as much as I could and cut off a big "hunk". The stems were about 10cm at the time.
Results: the ones left on site are about 4 meters now. Transplanted (left over night in moist bag) plants are about 1.5 meters. One little rhizome that only had one small bud has grown only about 10cm.
Have fun.
