DRY HOPPING

Post by fisherman » Sat Aug 08, 2009 2:50 pm

Hello,
Has anyone got any advice on dry hopping, I have brewed 27 litres of beer from a kit and spraymalt and after fermentation put 22 litres in bottles. The other 5 litres in a demijohn with a dozen golding cones to try to get the fresh hop taste. Kits may be ok but have a sour hop taste rather than bitter. I also boil hops for 20 mins to make hop tea to add before fermentation. Would a 10 minute boil be a better for taste than 20 min. Please help if you can.
Regards
fisherman

Boiling hops for 20 mins will extract a lot of bitterness. For aroma, it's best to steep the hops in a cafetiere for 20 mins or so. For taste, you can boil for 5 mins, but you will get some bitterness too.
