Harvest - Year 1

Post by WishboneBrewery » Sun Sep 27, 2009 3:12 pm

Here's my tiny hop harvest:
139g of Fuggle hops:

16g or Challenger hops:

I dare say I'm going to mix the Challenger with the Fuggles and dry them out together in news paper pockets :)
It seems the greenfly are doing their best to climb out of the plastic bowl, bet a missed the odd tiny caterpillar!

Don't feel bad about your harvest by any means, mine was so small that I only managed 54 flowers from my one Cascade bine. Not even enough to take a picture of really. I Just tossed them into the IPA that I brewed on Friday at flame out, but them rather got lost in the overpowering aroma of the Centennial hops. There's always next year.....................

Naa, I never expected anything this year... I knew I was planting late so I have higher hopes for next year.
They are a lovely looking plant while they are growing anyway :)

Ooh. Nice. I want to grow some hops next year. Any idea what the best time of year to plant them?

Spring I believe.

Any idea how you can work out the IBU?

I wasn't going to worry about the IBUs, I'll just chuck the lot into a brew at 15 mins :)
