Columbus hop pellets?

Post by naffolddog » Wed Apr 07, 2010 4:08 pm

I bought some Columbus hop pellets a while back, now planning a brew but not sure how to calculate the quantity I need.

I'm sure I read somewhere that you use about 10% less due to better hop utilization as there's less debris and the oils are more concentrated - but I can't remember where I read it!

Thanks, more info here

They say hop pellets show an increase in the utilization of alpha acids of up to 20% over that of leaf hops.

I've also been digging around the various brewing forums on the internet and the general concensus is to allow 10% for the increase in the utilization of alpha acids.
