H Tradition hopps?
H Tradition hopps?
Hi everyone i hope you are all well. I have a question about a new hopp that i have found on the Grimsby homebrew center the hopp is called H Tradition. On the write the flavours matched what i want in my stout but the write up states it only used in bittering and flavouring lagers. My question is would be ok if i used this hopp in my stout or would it be a bad move to use a lager hopp in a ale? i don't no if they is any rules in which hopps you can or can not use in ales, that is what i would like to find out? or if anybody has used the hopp in question i would love to hear about your experiances.

Re: H Tradition hopps?
Full name is hallertauer tradition hops, I've not tried these but apparently these were bred as a replacement to hallertauer mittelfruh being more pest/disease resistant and higher yield. I've used mittelfruh in a light bitter and it worked really well. I'm no expert with stout but if these are low alpha % then I would be tempted to use a higher alpha % hop instead, maybe northdown or challenger as I'm not sure you'll get the full benefit of the subtle aromas of hallertauer in a stout. If they are high alpha then I would be tempted to experiment with them.
A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.
Re: H Tradition hopps?
Thanx for the advice m8. I use North down in alot of my dark ales iam just looking for a new hop that i could use in my dark ales, i normally use challenger in my bitters and other lighter ales.Lately i have bought the american hopp Glacier to try in my dark ales, iam also looking at willemette for one of my stouts and using Pecfic gem aswell. I like mixing things up and try not to use the same hopps over and over again, however i do have a list of hopps that i class as my perment ones and then i have my guest list of hopps.
