Substitute for Wilamette

Is Fuggles a decent enough subsitute for Wilamette as an aroma hop or should I be look elsewhere?

Hi,

I would have thought so...

But I've not used them as a replacement for each other....

Maybe soemone else has...

The Malt miller stocks them and is usually very quick to post them out...
Hope that helps

As willammetes no.1 fan - I hate to say it but yes fuggle subsitutes well, perhaps a finer flavour but less deep.

Thanks for the hop buying tip I'll definitely use it next time.

In my excitement to get brewing I ordered fuggles (because it was available) based on my (little) knowledge and wanted to know if I was far off the mark from the recipes intended flavour.

Funny, over here the question is what can I use besides Fuggles?

I used them in a recent brown ale. Actually I can barely taste them, they seem to blend in with the malt character, I was kind of expecting a punchy US hoppy hit from them. But they are mellow. They also had a great strong blackcurrant aroma out of the packet.

I think Fuggles is a good sub.

Fugges are a good sub however you could also use either progress wich has the same flavours as fuuggles only a little sweeter, you could also use bram x as well it has the same blackcurrent flavour the only extra with bram x is it's more robust in flavour. hope ths helps happy brewing
