Where to buy Galaxy hops?

Post by Mauri » Fri Nov 19, 2010 8:46 pm

Is there anywhere in the UK where you can get Galaxy hops?
I bought some from Craftbrewer in Australia a year or so ago and I was wondering if these were available in the UK.
If not...is there anyone who is going to place a big order from Craftbrewer anytime soon to which I could add a couple of bags of hops?
Cheers

I asked Rob (themaltmiller.co.uk) if he was planning to start selling these in the near future and he kindly informed me that Australian and NZ hops are almost impossible to get and all of this years harvest was sold before it even got here. He also said next year, maybe, if the harvest is good enough.
Seems the only hope to get these is to order from Craftbrewer again, at least for the time being.

I hear that st austell are using them, grown here in Cornwall, I may be misinformed though but.
Theres the St Austell Beer festival this weekend, good ales and some top local bands, annoyingly I'll be at work.
EDIT!
Sorry, I am wrong they're imported hops. Their grains are from Cornwall though. good luck!

which st.austell brew uses galaxy? I live in Cornwall as well and I tried my fair share of their beers, but I can't remember any with the Galaxy aroma.
I am planning to be there this weekend, so I suppose I could find out the experimental way :=P

I very much doubt they are growing galaxy in cornwall, they cannot grow enough of them in Australia for demand!

I have around 500G in vac pac in my freezer but not selling em I am afraid I plan on a big beer with them in the new year.

AFAIAA the only HB supplier is Ross at craftbrewer, you can't get them wholesale here I have tried, Botanix did have them listed for a while end of last year but they seem to have disappeared.

Galaxy is a Great Hop by the way.

Mistery solved: I have the St Austell beer festival programme under my nose right now and it states: Prospect Pale Ale 3.8% A full bodied and easy drinking session ale with peach aromas from the Galaxy hops grown near Launceston (Tasmania)

Yes the other Launceston :D Ah the good old empire where the British took their favourite place names with them. I grew up on Tyneside and often drive past Newcastle NSW on the way to Sydney and the motorway signs can be quite nostalgic: Newcastle, Gateshead, Hexham, Wallsend, Lambton, Cardiff, .... Cardiff? well why not :D

it would be hard for some one in New Zealand to take a cutting, Tasmania is an island just off australia.
