Brixton health food hops

Post by goat father » Tue Dec 14, 2010 11:25 pm

While buying oregano and basil from Brixton health food shop last Saturday, I noticed they were selling "hops" by the ounce (@ 96 pence) and it seemed silly not to buy an ounce.

Other than being labelled as "hops" the lady behind the counter had no idea what they were, and I doubt their fuggles, but I do wonder what they are and if they are going to be useful.

Anybody have any ideas? and more to the point any suggestions on what to do with them : )

At 96p an ounce, I doubt the Dutch would find them to be of an acceptable quality.....

I'd brew a batch of something simple and put a few liters in a small carboy. Then I'd dry hop the small amount with these hops. If the results are nasty you will have only lost a little.
I'm just here for the beer.

Presumably they smell like hops.

You could always make a hop tea, and taste how bitter they are.
