Torpedo IPA is really nice but i'd say, for me, its a once in a while beer...i'd prefer to make something less high ABV and IBUs. adm your recipe idea sounds great...what was the actually recipe and hopping schedule?
cheers,
calum
Here you go:

Grain Bill
3Kg Lager Malt
1Kg Munich Malt
1Kg Wheat Malt
90 min mash at 65C

Hop Schedule
10g Citra FWH (Loose Pellets, 13.4% AA)
15g Citra 15 mins
15g Citra 10 mins
15g Citra 5 mins
15g Citra Flame Out

That should be about 38 IBU, so a good introduction to the Citra hops.

Yeast was US05

Have fun!

Awesome, sounds like a good one.
Much keener to use whole hops rather than pellets - had seen the maltmiller had whole citra but now out of stock! Seems to be 13.8% AA in that form so so not much difference.
Did you do a 60 minute boil or 90?
Was thinking i since they come in 100g bags i might also dry dry hopping..not done it before but think with citra it would work really well with all those citrus / fruit flavours.

Yeah...whole hops would be great. Personally I prefer them, but I only had Citra pellets.

I normally boil for 90 minutes myself, but to be honest don't notice any difference with a 60 minute boil.

As for the dry hops - absolutely!

I think that is a great idea Calum, i like pale ales to have a good hop flavour and character but iam not a real fan of ales where there is pure bitterness like some of the americaan i.p.a ales some these ales are 7% abv plus and have ibu's of 70 to 80.This to me is not appealing. The highest ibu's i have used is 54 and that to me was bitter enough for me i compare this to a hot curry and a mild curry, when the curry is so hot you can't taste anything but heat. This to me is the same as a ale that has been over hopped you can't taste anything but pure bitterness iam aware of where i.p.a come from but you can still make a i.p.a the old ways with lower hop levels and achol content my i.p.a averge from 4.8% abv,5.8% to 6.2% abv.I have not used my packet of Citra yet but i can't wait to use it though. The flavours this hop can produce will make a very special hop.I might make my own citra single hop ale.Happy brewing

My citra hops arrived today..looking forward to doing that brew sometime soon, should be good. I usually just buy enough hops for each recipe so dont need to worry about storing them but for this one i'll have left over hops which i need to store for a week or two before dry hopping...any recommendations on how to store them best?

If you can.....vacuum seal them and stick them in the freezer. If not, just try to get as much air out as possible - e.g. put them in a plastic bag, roll it up as tight as possible and tape it - then stick them in the freezer.

Freezer = good
Vac pack = better
Vac pack + freezer = best
