Don't smell of anything in the brew or on the plant?
Re: The hops I've grown don't smell of anything
Maybe they're not ready to pick yet?
When they're ready they should smell nicely 'hoppy' and when you rub them you should get yellow lupulin on your hands that also smells nicely hoppy.
The difference between the hop-variety-smells may be less, however you still should be able to notice a difference between most varieties.

Your not wrong about it not being warm I've not sat in the garden all summer ...the hops are still on the plants I'll leave them I am getting a bit of yellow when I rub them but no aroma , I just hope they don't blow away today when this storm hits

Yeah sounds like they need a little more "ripening". I only picked mine down in the sunny south (I wish) yesterday so yours will probably be a week or so longer at least.
Give them a squeeze and they shouldn't spring back and your fingers should pick up the hoppy smell.
I didn't get a huge harvest but its only their first year which is apparently always a slow one as the root system hasn't fully developed yet.

Mine don't smell too much at the moment either, but I'm comparing it with smelling dried hops in a plastic bag. They were definitely ripe as some had started to go a bit brown on the edges.
I'm sure once they're dried and bagged up, when I open the bag and smell it will be much stronger. I hope that is...

Lay them out on a screen of some sort, using a fly-wire door, or window-screen works well if you can 'borrow' one to dry your hops.

I've been using the voile from when I did BIAB.

Give them a liquid feed, use seaweed extract or something similar and they will ripen a lot quicker.alix101 wrote:I've grown cascade fuggles and challenger and they have cones on not monster cones but cones the thing is they don't smell of anything!!!!!
