Showcasing WGV

Post by Gricey » Sun Sep 18, 2011 7:18 pm

I have been offered some homegrown WGV from a friendly agritype, and while I don't know the AA% I'd like to brew a green hop beer and send some to him as thanks. I'd like to make a beer that showcases this particular hop. I know I'll be stuck for bittering (maybe I'll buy some so I can get a known AA), but does anyone have any ideas of a basic recipe where this hop will shine.

Thinking of lots of flavour, aroma, and dry additions. Maybe continual hopping from 20 mins to a 80C steep.

Cheers
Gricey.

my mate runs a micro in sussex, their mainstay brew is "old cocky" which uses wgv as the principle hop, I"ll try and get the recipe, although if he tells me he might have to kill me!

The Graham wheeler Marstons pedigree recipe uses WGV, and makes a cracking beer, I am a Big fan of WGV.

hi, from the info recieved, I've worked it back using beer engine for 23 ltrs;
4,500 gm pale malt
75 gm crystal
20 gm torrified wheat

28gm wgv 60 mins
16gm northdown 60 mins
32 gms wgv 15 mins/flameout ( I would split these into two 16 gm lots)

gives an expected og 1046, 43ebu

he didnt give me yeast variety, I would use Nottm, but thats cos I always do not because I know owt about yeast, Im gonna try it myself, we'll have to compare notes
no palate, no patience.

I have never really liked a beer that I have used WGV in, quite horrible and takes ages to settle down into something drinkable.

Though don't let me put you off :)
