Was pleasantly suprised in LHBS today
I notice hops have gone back to the price they were a few years back to around the £3.50 per 100g rather than just under £6. I was almost tempted to bulk buy just in case its short lived!

Someone infront of me in the queue there today commented on just that (between 10-11am). You weren't buying a couple of bags of lager malt + numerous other grains/hops were you ?
Dan!

Yup, that was me! Were you buying what looked like a 500g bag of chocolate malt? I did think as I left the shop 'I wonder if any JBK members were in there'. Especially when you see someone else buying grains.Andy wrote:Someone infront of me in the queue there today commented on just that (between 10-11am). Yes, 500g of choc malt. I was brewing an Altons Pride clone and realised at the last minute that I needed choc malt. I was hopping around a bit as I'd left the HLT heating up in the garage and needed to get back pronobooldawg wrote:Yup, that was me! Were you buying what looked like a 500g bag of chocolate malt? Sorry, shoudlve let you in front, by the time I'd realised there was someone behind me half my stuff was through the till. I tend to buy enough to lasr 3-4 brews as I'm about 15 miles away.Andy wrote:Yes, 500g of choc malt. I was brewing an Altons Pride clone and realised at the last minute that I needed choc malt. When I noticed you had just 500g of grains I thought 'Looks like a brew day dash to LHBS!' Hope all went well and you got back in good time.

Re: Was pleasantly suprised in LHBS today
No probs, I live less than 5 mins away so got back with time to spare and brewday went well thanks (except for pitching some out of date Nottingham which didn't get going)booldawg wrote:Sorry, shoudlve let you in front, by the time I'd realised there was someone behind me half my stuff was through the till. Re: Was pleasantly suprised in LHBS today
we are trying to keep prices down
(even though we just had a 70% increase in Business Rates)
Hops we have started to pack our own, which helps keeps costs lower
and 09 harvests are a lot better and a lot cheaper then 08's
simcoe now in stock @ 100g £3.76

Re: Was pleasantly suprised in LHBS today
I Use Farnborough (now Aldershot) and live many many miles away in Netheravon near Salisbury.
Re: Was pleasantly suprised in LHBS today
Its the first time I've been in there since they moved from Fboro and was very impressed with the size of the place and the stock. Sadly I missed the open day. The range of hops was huge!

How did your clone turn out?Andy wrote: I was brewing an Altons Pride clone and realised at the last minute that I needed choc malt.
Any chance of the recipe as i'd love to imitate this one.
