New season hops

Post by guypettigrew » Mon Oct 24, 2011 3:45 pm

There don't seem to be any Citra hops around until the "new season" ones arrive. When is this, please?

Also, in the absence of Citra, what else gives a similar flavour when used as a dry hop?

Thanks.

Guy

The new crop of American hops isn't far off, probably next month. As for substitutes, anything I'd suggest would be American and also out of stock.

It's really annoying how nobody has these hops at the moment, but we're all in the same boat. Not long to wait now. ;)

I bet they sell out quick though as everyone will be stocking up so they don't run out next year.

I bet the prices will be a bit higher as well :(

Yeah, I'm fearing the worst price-wise. All the micros have been running out, and they're the ones with the buying power to really stock up for the year. Whatever's left for homebrewers are going to be scarce and overpriced. I think we're going to get reamed this year. :(

You could be right .
I have been watching the hop prices at a local bulk supplier and they seem to change from week to week.
Its like trading on the stock market.
I may take a punt when they do turn up and buy a few kg.

The place I buy hops from here starting selling their crop on monday, citra sold out in a few hours. Others will have it though I'm sure. They have some new crop still of other varieties. They havent released a lot of the varieties yet though.
