Hop Extract with vodka

Post by TheMumbler » Fri May 25, 2012 11:44 am

An experiment after listening to a podcast on cooking with brewing ingredients on the homebrewed chef I thought I would give this a go. They use 1oz of pellet hops in a pint jar. I went with 40g in 500ml as it is what I had to hand and pellet hops give a better rate of extraction (something like 15% better) when boiling so it might be the case for this too. Maybe not, but how wrong can I go adding more hops?

remember to keep it out of the light, a jar of skunk vodka is not what we're after :)

If it works out it might be fun to cook with and potentially I could use it to add a bit of hop zing to beers if needed.

Nice one! I was talking to a friend who runs a bar the other day and he was saying that a similar hop extract is now used in some cocktails.
