beer gut wrote:Hi all I was thinking the other day about a blend of hop I would like to try. That blend is Pilgrim and Endeavour I would try this blend in Red,Dark and Pale ales but mainly in the dark/red styles. I would use Pilgrim for bitterness and flavour and Endeavour for FW addition and flavour as well. What do you guys think.?

HELL YEAH!

I'd go for Pilgrim FWH, then Endeavour 2nds, Pilgrim and Endeavour last, then Endeavour dry hop. Reckon it would be cracking in a red ale or even a best style.

Hi Seymore I have been looking for a new Dual P hop because I have used the Traditional Dual P hop ie Challenger way to much in my beers I am not saying there are bad hops I just want a change. I have also been looking at Pioneer but I think I will try Pilgrim first.

Sounds good. Have you tried Progress and/or Northdown? I might include those in your list of English dual-purpose options. Northern Brewer still kicks ass, too.

Hi seymore yeah for a long time I have used Challenger for my paler beers and Northdown for my darker Richer beers, sometimes I will blend Northdown with progress when I am brewing porters and stouts. I am brewing a Triple choc stout for Christmas and I am using Progress for bitterness and EKG for the last 10 mins to give the beer a smoother flavour. For some reason everytime I brew a pale beer using Northdown the flavour is never right but in dark beers Northdown really comes into it's own.

Thanks, that's good info, and helps solidify some of my own impressions. I too, have had some very good brown ales with Northdown, but found a pale single hop trial beer slightly rough.
