Target and Admiral

Post by injac » Wed Jul 03, 2013 10:48 am

Adapting a kit IPA at the moment. Last night I steeped some Admiral for 30 mins and chucked it in the FV. I want to dry hop this once it calms down - will Target be good for this on its own or should I add some Admiral in with it?

Yeah a few places online seem to say Target isn't great for dry hopping....

Target seems to be used mainly for dark beers. I've done Guinness clones with it to good effect.
Best wishes

I've only ever used it in reasonable quantities as a bittering hop, works well mixed with some Challenger.

Has a robust character to it which lasts the boil but supposedly can have some unpleasant flavours if you use heavily in late additions, which is where most people would prefer to use the more delicate Goldings, or my preference of First Gold.

And to answer the question about Admiral - that's not really an aroma hop either, so if you dry hop, be careful with it.

How many grams would you say for a dry hop? 23l brew by the way...

For an English IPA 1 gram per litre is a good starting amount.

I've put in 2 grams per litre with more floral hops like Goldings or First Gold.
