Which hop for a honey aroma?

Post by Matt » Fri Dec 27, 2013 10:18 am

Any suggestions? I've seen one of the CF numbered hops quoted as this on JBK but I can't find the thread.

Thanks

Hi Matt.

I got honey from CF114 (Bishop) hops in a bitter HERE

As ever with these things YMMV....

I'd say that you're more likely to impart a honey sweetness through specialist malts than hops. Try the various crystal malts

I agree Dave. The biscuit and crystal in my beer probably played a big part but the hops seemed to add something as well. When I crushed some in my hands before using them I remember thinking that they smelt of honey.

Good point about malts, thanks gents. I think I will try the Bishop + a suitable malt mix. Just trying to develop my house ale, which has a nice spicy and grapefruity hop flavour from a Pilgrim and Bramlin X mix, and I think it would be improved with a bit of honey sweetness and aroma.
