OK so I have been slightly misinformed. I have it on the highest authority that Epic is in-fact a hedgerow variety. They originally thought it may have been an extinct hop, but all the normal analyses have disproved this, so it's just a bog standard wild one that appears to be particularly tasty.

Define "hedgerow variety"?

And what do you mean by "bog standard wild one"? Wouldn't all wild hops be fairly different from each other?

I've been trying to remember since seeing this thread that a beer that I had recently that said it was brewed with epic hops.
It was Terre Rouge by the Beer Studio (aka the craft micro brewery at the new Hydes plant in Salford). As I remember I thought it quite reasonable to drink and would have had another had I not been on my way home from work (and it was in the second pub that evening :))

The Hyde's brewery is one of my customers, i was trying to blag a sack of grain and some yeast from the brewer there.
He wouldn't sell them to me - said he doesn't sell to the public.
might try my luck with some hops next time i visit.
Ive not tried many of hydes beers to be honest as nearly every pub near me is Robinson's, im quite partial to a pint of unicorn best.
