I actually have 4 or 5 plants that must have shot up during the recent warm weather and are growing well !

Are they easy to grow? I'm fairly crap with plants but, would love to grow my own. It would make the beer even more special!

i grow a variety of hops up in northwest of northern ireland which is not of the ideal climate , having said that, they grow well and give enoughj hops for more beers than i can brew, the cascade for the last two years have been in my poly tunnel and it has done especially well having harvested more from that than any other ,one of the cuttings from that has know been transplanted outside and is flying uo a telegraph wire/pole so hopefully it will do well too. i water all mine with a chicken manure and nettle tea which i think has been extremly beneficial !

Mmmm, I don't have a ready supply of chicken poo! I live live in a chalky area here in North Surrey, wih about 10" of soil before you hit Chalk! and lots of it. Do the roots need good depth? Obviously they like to grow up so do the root systems do the same below?

they dont grow very deep but they do spread out, i have very rocky ground that the roots dont reach prob less than 10" deep .

Chalky soil shouldn't be a problem for hops I'd have thought, bearing in mind where hops traditionally grew in the UK.

(I say grew, as last time I went through the Kent countryside, I couldn't see a single hop farm. Having been brought up there, I seem to remember seeing loads)

Haven't had a chance to brew lately (new born in the house) but i can report back on the growth of the cascade plant you sent, its growing like an absolute beast, about 8 foot on one shoot and about 5 and 4 foot on the other two im training. This is in stark constrast to my first gold growing in the garden which are about the 1 foot mark.
