Nice one MrC :)

There is http://www.aplus-hops.co.uk/info.htm I mentioned earlier, although you don't need to do half that stuff because you have the plant and not the root.

I have done nothing but plant and water mine, and add some random climbibng sticks, they seem to be alive, but then I'm no percy thrower :D

Second Dave's comments, I just found a place in the garden which gets lots of sunlight and is near to a fence. Dug a hole, put some compost in, watered, planted contents of the hop plant pot, filled in with soil/compost, watered again. Watered each day and then added a stick for the plant to climb on, attached more sticks to the original as the plant grew....I'm now at the point where I'll get the plant to train onto a trellis.

Noby, if you are getting your hops from beer essentials, you are probably in a better position than you think in terms of growing hops. You will get a plant, rather than a root, so that saves time, and I have been amazed how quickly they have been growing in a short space of time. You can see what growth has happened from day to day.

I'l take some pics later and post them. :)
Hops arrived this morning, actually. From Beer Essentials.
They've been a week in transport, but a good watering should sort them out (me pretending I know what I'm on about). Three plants, all in separate pots. Once I get them in the ground and they get going I'll get a few pics too.

How's the hop growing going?

Mine are growing well, but I can see no evidence of actual hops - only leaves. It has occurred to me that I may have a male plant :bonk

What are other people's experiences?

After my slug attacks I'm left with mere seedlings. It probably won't yield a crop until next years harvest.

I doubt you'd have a male plant. They are of no commercial value and since they are usually propogated from cuttings or rhizomes (ie clones) the supplier would probably have to go out of their way to provide a male.

6ft

Mine are more like 6 inches :(

Now I've erradicated the slug problem (I can recommend Growing Success Advanced Slug Killer) they seem to be growing at pace. They are actually nearer a foot long after a few days of uninterupted growth. So we'll see how they get on.

tribs - have you got the plants in a sunny position ? And do you water them frequently ?

One of mine is about 5 ft and the other two are about 3-4 ft.

Oh, the snails and grubs have been at mine too - I have a daily grub removal regime around the base of the plants :D

Yeah, they are in a sunny position and they get watered frequently. I am also giving them fertiliser fairly regularly.

I did get them in the ground a little late. Maybe a month or more after the rest of you and they were a lot smaller than the plants you received (judging by the photos you've posted when you received them).

Its not the end of the world if they don't catch up, at least they'll be well established for next year.
