Re: cascade hop in the uk?
Blimey Delboy, what have you been feeding it????
My new cascade is only about 6 inches high (it didn't come from fc).

Re: cascade hop in the uk?
I think the credit for the growth belongs to FC, it was obviously from a very healthy plant, i do though have it in a southfacing sunroom/lean to greenhouse setup so its obviously enjoying the extra heat.boingy wrote:Blimey Delboy, what have you been feeding it????

Haven't actually feed it yet but i'll be going with FCs suggested manure tea which i have stewing away at the moment.
Were did you get your plant from boingy?

Re: cascade hop in the uk?
thats great news delboy, i`m glad its goiung well for you hope everyone is having as much success. I think mine is a little behind that but not much ,though it did get a severe hacking ! the one i have outside is a good bit behind too but that said its still 2 or 3 foot high thats gonna get a bit more tea to see if the extra nutrients help !
Re: cascade hop in the uk?
Ah, yes. It will be the extra heat and protection it is getting at the moment. Mine is in the garden so has been seeing a few frosts in recent weeks. It's at the southwest corner of the house - the closest I can get to south facing and still have something for it to grow up. I'm generally rubbish at growing stuff so if it survives to produce any form of harvest it will be a miracle!
Do you plan to plant yours outside later on?
My plant came from fleabay. I'm no expert but it looked healthy enough and had some decent shoots.

Re: cascade hop in the uk?
Mine arrived this morning, thanks a lot FC! It was quite badly knackered from being put through the post, unfortunately, but hopefully it will perk up with a bit of fresh soil and water.
Re: cascade hop in the uk?
Mine came yesterday too, they were a bit bashed but the bines were coiled up on top of the pot of soil so not much damage at all considering. A few of the leaves had been baterted thats all. I poked a couple of short canes in, one for each bine of which they are two, and coiled them up. They are about 16inches tall. I sat them in the green house for now, but will plant them in between my two south facing sheds today.
Happy hopping!

Re: cascade hop in the uk?
glad to hear theyve arrived they will soon perk up , i did tell the post office that they need handled with care but dont think they ever do ! keep em moist give some manure tea and some heat agreenhouse/cloche or keep behind a tough polythene screen and they should start `flying` you may even get enough hops to use for a brew or two this year ! but look after it this year and you`ll reap the rewards next year !
